Yesterday, Microsoft announced a new tablet called Surface. It will run Windows 8 operating system. It is a good news! We like to see it gets a lot of applications and makes it useful.

My Q1 is still running with Windows XP tablet edition. Also it got touch screen, looks like it cannot be upgraded to Windows 8.

SQL Server 2005 in Q1

These days, I am using Q1 with SQL Server 2005 installation in it. Q1 runs well.

The battery is almost dead in this Q1. But I can still put my Q1 into sleep.

Now, Microsoft is working on Windows 8 and trying to get it into new tablet without a stylus.

Q1 is still running

My Q1 is still running. With stylus, Q1 is old fashion comparing to tablets such as iPad and Kindle Fire. Microsoft is working on Window 8. We will see tablets run Window 8 in next two years.

Q1 still working

I am still using this first generation of Samsung Q1 although the battery can last only 5 minutes now. I checked the price of Q1 battery and thought to replace it. It is not cheap. I am running Oracle 11g Express Version on it. It is a little bit slow but ok.

In 10 days, Apple's iPad will be on the market. Here is a picture I got today using my Q1 and checking iPad. Now, browsing web, checking emails, chat with friends, read books, run applications and play games become easy because of iPad. I don't have to pull out the stylus from the side and click screen to type things or flip pages.

I am going to keep my Q1 and use it even I get one iPad.

Netbook

In last year, we see more and more netbook in PC market. This is a kind of small laptop or notebook computer with 7 to 9 inch monitor, a keyboard, touch pad, 1GB memory, 160GB hard drive, wireless network selling around $300. It is much cheaper than first generation of Samsung Q1.

Using Q1 as GPS

I got a Microsoft GPS few years ago. After installing MS Streets and Trips, I turned my Q1 to a GPS. The screen is huge comparing most GPS on the market since I have 7inch screen. Right now, Microsoft offers MS Streets and Trips 2009 version. Here is the screen dump of this GPS and MS street running on my Q1. This GPS receiver is connect to Q1 with an USB port. The signal is strong. I am using this Q1 GPS during driving and having a power inverter to provide power to Q1.
